City Mythbusters - Maui, Hawaii
Provide a list of 5 to 10 of the most famous stories, urban legends, long-standing myths, etc., about your city. This may be used to create an interactive quiz, so please provide in list format and include: 1) a concise description of the myth/legend, 2) whether it is true or false, and 3) a more in-depth description of the myth/legend and evidence to support that it is true/false. We're looking for ghost stories, famous events that may or may not have happened, odd happenings, weird names for things that originally sprang from an urban legend, etc. Please be opinionated, informal, playful, and conversational (imagine you are giving straightforward, no-holds-barred advice to a close friend). Avoid superlatives. Instead of describing something as "wonderful/ amazing/ incredible/ terrific" paint a picture of the "wonderful/ amazing/ incredible" situation with details (in other words "show" don't "tell"). Prove you know the legendary stories, and the details, too. We're not looking for descriptions that could have come straight from a guidebook or a PR release. Prove you know this city's deepest secrets by sharing the kind of information only an insider would know.
